Dyslexia 101

According to research, one out of every five students struggle academically because they have dyslexia. Unfortunately, because Kansas is a state that does not specifically address dyslexia, very few individuals actually have accurate information. Instead, many "dyslexia myths" continue to be prevalent in our Kansas communities. Fundamental Learning Center hopes to remedy that by offering parents and teachers Dyslexia 101, a monthly lecture designed to share current, research based information and true, basic facts about dyslexia. Dyslexic children are far more likely to succeed academically when parents and teachers become educated about dyslexia and learn more about reliable resources and up-to-date information that can lead to knowledgeable decisions about a child's instructional needs.

Know Your Rights 101

Is your child receiving the education that he or she deserves?  Do you feel prepared to request necessary 504 accommodations or an IEP for your child with dyslexia?  Do you feel that you are ready to talk your child's school about accommodations or IEPs? Most parents tell us they feel intimidated and lack confidence to have this conversation with their child's school administrators and staff.  Fundamental Learning Center understands, and is here to help.

"Walk In Their Shoes" A Dyslexia Simulation

The Fundamental Learning Center will facilitate six centers that will help participants experience the same frustrations children with learning difficulties feel in the classroom. This simulation is highly effective in raising awareness of why accommodations need to be in place to help learning different children be successful in the classroom.
